About This Event
Tennessee House Bill 1649 (companion Senate Bill 1656), known as Matthew Davenport's Law, passed both legislative chambers and was signed into law by Governor Bill Lee on April 16, 2026. The law, enacted as Public Chapter 950, classifies mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine as Schedule I controlled substances. This makes the possession, manufacture, delivery, or sale of kratom illegal statewide as of July 1, 2026, changing its status from RESTRICTED to BANNED.
